Wow, people, here's a wake up call. Your vote this year could mean the end of your tax-deferred savings opportunities - the Democrats are proposing to socialize retirement savings.
Some quotes of interest:
That means your employer can no longer write off their contributions to your 401(k), and your capital gains would be taxable year-on-year. In other words, it becomes just another investment or savings account, with no tax benefit at all, and no employer contribution. Instead, Uncle Sam would give you your "matching" funds — up to a whopping $600 per year!
I'd much rather have my 11% match from my employer than a $600 - it's the difference between my ability to add thousands of dollars to my retirement account each year and, well, just $600.
The Democrats want to end the private retirement system that has allowed Americans to become a vast investor class and put them back in thrall of the federal government. This is nothing more than a second welfare system that would sit on top of the crumbling Social Security entitlement. It would leave the American working and middle classes with no retirement option other than a government handout. If the Democrats control both Congress and the White House, kiss your 401(k)s goodbye, and get into the bread lines first before the crowd arrives.
Why are we moving back to a fuedal/slavery system here? Let's just have our businesses, homes, 401(k)s, cars owned by the government, why don't we. We know that any program the government runs is badly flawed - why do we want to trust the goverment with the management our retirement savings?
Finally - why are we trusting very important financial and economic issues to lawmakers (of whom less than 50% have formal training/education/experience in business, finance, economics and accounting)?
All of the candidates' promises on the campaign trail at this point are just that: promises (which sound good right now but may be totally unfeasible given certain realities). This is a REAL movement with REAL impact and a certainty if you put the Democrats in control of both Congress and the White House. Just think about it.
