For some reason, lately, I've been exposed to more conversation about "special needs." It usually manifests itself in some combination of the following phraseology:
"Special needs individual/kids/child/person"
Please know that the correct way to phrase this is:
"Individual/kids/child/person WITH SPECIAL NEEDS"
An easy way to remember this is to know that they are people first.
For example, instead of, "I am going to work with Autistic children this Friday night." Choose instead to say, "I am going to work with children with Autism this Friday night."
Hope this is helpful.
